Odyssey Installation

Welcome to the Odyssey Monitor installation guide.

The installation process should only take a few minutes.

  1. You will need measuring calipers, or a way to precisely measure a 4.3mm gap.
  2. You will need hex/allen keys to tighten up the erg screws and bolts.
  3. A large flathead screwdriver may help with sensor cap alignment.

bundle

The new Odyssey Monitor bundle contains four items:

  1. Odyssey Monitor display unit
  2. Sensor fin
  3. Impulse cap
  4. Data cable

STEP 1 - Check and tighten all screws and bolts around the flywheel, and for the rest of the machine.

STEP 2 - Clear the area on the side of the flywheel, ensuring access to the shaft and collar.

STEP 3 - Place the impulse cap over the shaft collar.  It should be a snug fit.  Press the cap in as close to the panel as possible without touching it.  Ensure the cap is seated evenly when spinning.  Give the flywheel a light spin to ensure the cap is secure and not rubbing against the panel.

STEP 4 - Attach the sensor fin by peeling away the adhesive backing and locating it near the impulse cap. Measure the gap between the cap and the fin to be exactly 4.3mm. Press the fin securely against the panel. Double check that the gap between the fin and the sensor is 4.3mm, re-adjust if necessary.

    5. The monitor can be kept plugged in with USB power.
  2. Metrics
    1. Tap on any slot to change the metrics display.
    2. Force curve always takes two vertical slots.
    3. The monitor is set to auto calculate the drag factor, so no calibration is needed at any damper level.
  3. Workouts
    1. Tap the Home icon on the main screen to show the workout menu.
    2. Select a workout option, input details, and proceed to workout.
    3. Once a workout is completed, a summary screen will show.
    4. Choosing "Just Paddling" will reset the metrics to zero.
  4. Bluetooth
    1. The monitor is BLE FTMS compatible and works with paddling and rowing apps like Swelldone, EXR, Kinomap, and etc.
    2. Connect via Bluetooth by selecting the Odyssey monitor.
  5. Calibrating against an existing monitor
    1. The Odyssey monitor is self calibrating by observing realtime drag factor (spindown), so it's very likely that the existing monitor is not calibrate accurately. If you wish it adjust the Odyssey variables, please follow the video below.
